Auctions: for Old Seafaring Dogs

TWO traditional fancies top the bill in the London salerooms: pet art at Bonhams, Monday (11am) and marine art at Sotheby's, Wednesday (11am), which coincide with Cruft's and the Boat Show. The former has terriers ratting and dachshunds begging, at prices from the low hundreds; the latter has ships at sea, ranging from the same to about pounds 40,000 for a Montague Dawson, the ever-popular ships' portraitist.

Bonhams relaunches its carpet sales on Wednesday (11am) with Oriental and European affordables: a carefully selected reflection of market trends aimed at home-furnishers and collectors.

Pick of the rest: Christie's (South Kensington) first foray into the stamp market: affordable collections (from low hundreds) Thursday (2pm). Also Thursday: ceramics (10.30am), pictures (10.30am), costume and textiles (2pm). Tuesday: silver and plate (2pm). Wednesday: carpets, decorative objects and furniture (10.30am). Sotheby's has a wine sale rich in claret and port, Wednesday (10.30am) and another of its down-market, highly polished Colonnade sales - English and Continental furniture and decorations, Friday (10.30am). Phillips has British and Victorian paintings Tuesday (11am) and European ceramics Wednesday (11am).
